About

I am Charis. I build the software, and I am who you deal with.

No account managers, no handover to another team, and no layer of project management between your requirement and the person implementing it.

Direct to the developer

You brief the person who writes the code. No account manager in between.

Fixed written price

Scope and cost agreed in writing before any work begins. No hourly drift.

You own everything

Code, hosting and data in your name from day one. No lock-in, ever.

Nottingham & Leicester

On site across the East Midlands, or online anywhere in the UK.

What I do

I build custom software for UK businesses from my base in the East Midlands, working across Nottingham, Leicester, Derby and Loughborough in person, and across the UK remotely.

The work splits into two halves. One half is the care sector: compliance systems, supervision and training tracking, incidents and inspection evidence. The other is general small business work: websites, booking systems and internal tools.

How I ended up specialising in care

I built a supervision and compliance platform for a care provider, which meant learning Regulation 18 properly rather than superficially: what supervision has to evidence, why frequency varies by role, and why an audit trail is a different thing from a last-modified date.

That knowledge turned out to be rare. Most developers quoting for care software are learning the sector on the client's budget. Having already done that learning, I start at the actual problem.

How I work

  • Fixed written quotes. You know the price and the scope before anything starts.
  • Visible progress. Regular updates and a link you can click, not silence until the end.
  • You own everything. Code, hosting and accounts in your name, no lock-in.
  • Honest scoping. If an off-the-shelf product would serve you better than a custom build, I will tell you, even though it costs me the job.

Technical background

React and TypeScript on the front end. Node.js, Python, PostgreSQL and Supabase behind it. Stripe for payments, deployed on Vercel or Render with automated builds. I have integrated with UK government services including the DEFRA waste tracking API.

I deliberately use a boring, widely-adopted stack. It is well documented, easy to hire for, and easy for another developer to take over, which serves your interests better than something fashionable nobody else can maintain.

What I am not

I am one developer, not an agency. That means direct access and no communication overhead, but it also means I take on a limited number of projects at once. If your project needs a team of six by next month, I am not the right fit, and I will say so at the quote stage rather than after you have paid a deposit.

How we work

Three steps, no surprises in between

Every project runs the same way, whether it is a full platform or an afternoon of changes.

01

Free scoping call

Thirty minutes. You tell me what you are trying to fix, open or win, and I tell you honestly whether I am the right person for it.

02

Written proposal, fixed price

Scope, what you get, timeline and a fixed price in writing before any work starts. No hourly drift and no surprise invoices.

03

Build, then handover

You get a link and regular updates as it comes together, then a walkthrough so your team can run it without me.
